the dress I don't know what to wear with

I got this dress as a gift for Christmas; but I can't figure out how to wear it at the moment. It's a little more formal than I expected it to be, and due to the poofy bow on the top I am unable to wear any sort of jacket or anything over it because it makes me look like a linebacker. Wearing a teeshirt under it just makes it look sort of silly. It's possible that I will just have to wait until it gets warmer outside to wear it. But I don't want to! So I'm asking anyone: Suggestions?
