With all the crazy shoes designers have the ability to design with the new given technology, spanning from McQueen' alien-like hunched platforms (S/S 2010), the Lego palace Balenciaga shoes (A/W 2007), it's pretty amazing that no designer has yet to tackle the idea of creating some kind of shoe embodying a cat. The closest thing to this idea would perhaps be Topshop's kitty flat. But I'd like to see something even closer to the resemblance of an actual cat. Maybe something like the shoes/feet in Romanian artist Victor Braunser's Mitsi (1939).

Take a walk on the wild side

While browsing for strange shoes online the other day, I came across something I've never seen before. Something envisioned with the prospect of "new". But, more than epitomizing "new", these shoes deftly illustrated "Avant-garde", and shoes as pieces of art. These are the type of shoes that could zealously sit upon one's dresser or other piece of furniture, simply to sit there. Simply to generate conceptions and foster conversations. This blank and rigidly stiff, fresh off-white canvas, smelling still as the back of the dusty local art store awaits dialogue and discussion. Let the world as one enjoy these pieces of bizarre artistry.

Yes, they're real.

Clear to me

The classically disgusting jelly shoes that re-emerge every spring/summer season are haunting my dreams. Despite the sticky foot sweat that inhabits each pair; the slipping around on the concrete streets that accompanies it- I have decided I must have a pair. But not just any pair. I want clear, Cinderella, glass-like slippers to encase my flat and pedicured feet.

These heels by Maison Martin Margiela are even better. They, however, are made of glass and sold by the shoe rather than by the pair.

Pierre Hardy A/W 09/10

Some of the best times spent doing nothing lead to even better times spend doing something. You know what I mean? An example of this would be the discovery and exploration of Pierre Hardy's new collection. Oh, how I adore his masterpieces. From the brilliant man who once stated, "As we are not in a period of real innovation, you have to be totally different while also being the same. The new way is to combine elements from the past with new proportions.", these shoes weren't made for walking. But they're fantastic as idealistic art pieces, alright?

Hell Shoes

By now everyone has probably gazed at the Nina Ricci Fall 09 shoes in awe, but I was re-reading No Exit by Sartre and I was reminded of them. Simply because the play is about Sartre's portrayal of Hell, and these shoes remind me of Hell. Complete with a 12 inch sickle base and covered in sparkly soot or vivid red silk, it's a wonder these shoes aren't classified as a weapon. This was Olivier Theyskens', the now ex-artistic director of Nina Ricci, last collection with Nina Ricci, and some ponder why he saved the best collection for last - though I think this opinion is heavily influenced by sympathy for Olivier of those not looking at the business side of fashion. Because really, it's a dual world.

DIY Chaaaains

Inspiration - salvation. It comes to me in many forms. When relatively new designers take something and push it only one small step farther than something classic but charge massive money for it, I just have to go DIY loco. Example at hand being these sick shoe chains and Indian princess style headbands. Possibly inspired by the recent Givenchy chain necklace craze, and priced at around $200; I think they're pretty much all DIYable with a good pair of pliers and some old necklaces/bracelets.

The new Rodartes

Yesterday the Prada Fall 2009 collection was presented. People packed into a round arena style building and watched as models paraded around in gladiator dresses studded with roman metals. But then there were the velvet brocade duos paired with high heeled wellies. The fuzzy gray tinged bouffants of the models were quite archaic. The shoes, which consisted of a fanlike covering over the ankle - embedded with the same studs that covered some of the strong leather frocks, were a mohawk of loveliness.

Stella McCartney's fall 2008 collection was so great. The cut out dresses, the little bags, the shoes... Mostly the cut out dresses.

I would LOVE to do this one day. Go out and primarily look at people's shoes and take pictures. It's too bad the only thing I'd get around here is pictures of tennis shoes and Birkenstocks.

I love the look of Balenciaga's f/w 08 shoes. But to my surprise many people are saying they look "wearable"? Okay, look at the sharpness of the shoe, that alone should indicate discomfort. Pointed heels are never that comfortable, obviously because our toes and feet are not naturally that shape. Look at how thin the heel on the 2nd one is. The first heel isn't as thin, but it doesn't exactly look comforting. So in conclusion, yes, the Balenciaga heels are WEARABLE. If you love large amounts of pain.
