Ah, September! The month of magazines packed with as many advertisements as they can fit... Each trying to out-do each other in number of pages as well as "Newness". September in fashion marks the month which symbolizes the time when we're really supposed to pull out our Autumn/Winter wardrobes... It's the time when the magazines start to style the models in warm fur coats, luscious leathers, and slick boots. However, it is at the same time Spring/Summer Fashion month. Collections in New York, London, Milan, and Paris are being presented for the seasons that seem so far away, in the middle of September. The fashion world will always be ahead of itself.
I love the kind of color that is saturated and brimming with an abundance of emotion. The emotion is attached to the color, thus, jewel toned blues, purple, and reds stimulate an out of body, other worldly feeling. Long and vibrant red hair, fingers abounding decadent rings, tiaras fluidly dripping; placed upon a magical mess. The almost malicious gold boots complete the square.
Solve for X. Natalia Vodianova + Vogue Paris (April 2010) = X. X = this:
I just had to share this photo from the November issue of Vogue Paris. Something about the oversize chunky gold men's watch, soft bunny with it's ears half pugnaciously yanked back, half endearingly held back, and a placket-like sheath of brown leather ignites an amber flame of what is to be November.
It's the forthright strangeness of Paris Vogue of the 1990's that is intriguing. These nails are disgusting. Lace pants and an entire outfit made of sweatshirt material? What? A man with periwinkle colored toe nails...
When an editorial is almost 15 years old and it's still modern, I think that says something. In this editorial photographed by the infamous David Lachapelle, models appear in renaissance paintings, stand on historical buildings, and lay in perfectly groomed gardens of which are severed into architectural lines; movement for the eyes. My favorite is probably the one where the model gratifyingly stands upon the decadent crown, her dress cascading to the side. From Vogue Paris september 1995:
It's snowing outside, and the grass is slowly turning from a dull muted green to a brilliant blanket of white. A winter tale... This editorial from the October 2006 Vogue Paris is a fictional winter scene, with girls wearing amazing gowns, furs, and masks. The white owls are so decadent.
