Something new
The idea of fashion is so, so broad. It is history, it is rhetoric, it is geography and mathematics. Fashion has changed history, and history has changed fashion. Rhetoric is directed towards people in different ways according to what they are wearing, and that has always been true. Geography effects the way we wear, and of course, a whole lotta mathematics go into the construction of a garment. So, when I get tired of seeing Balmain and Alexander Wang, I tend to look to other sources. Fashion exists everywhere, because it is what we wear- and everyone wears something- whether it be a loincloth or a Versace gown.

Red- the power color
Is there any other color that can aesthetically do what red does? Red- the color of empowerment, movement, strength, and luxury. When anything in a magazine is coated in that genius color, it pops. The fluidity of the page is completely changed and all of the viewers attention is directed to the red. The composition becomes completely restructured. The atomic number is changed; the protons, neutrons, and electrons all rearrange; when red happens. It's a catastrophic moment when this color is brought forward onto the page. And often the same when someone wears a really fantastic red dress.

Matthew Williamson for H&M video
Oh, the H&M videos... How I love them! It's not just that they promote the collaborative collection, but that they invent a totally embalming world and story in each two-minute commercial. This one was no exception. The beginning sought after the viewer when the model rose and proclaimed "Always the same, it's boring". From there, galactic craters, pink horses, and trippy music took over. It's definitely worth the watch; and even further investigating the other H&M videos, all of which can be found on YouTube.

Stars of the Costume Institute gala
Ahh, relief comes in the form of something doing something different and looking great while doing so. Example, Kate Moss and her shining turban debuted last night at the met gala, with Marc Jacobs as a sidekick. The two were co-hosts of the event. This year's theme? “The Model as Muse: Embodying Fashion” Definitely one of the only times I actually care about "who's wearing who/which celebrity is wearing what."

It must have been the work of Paul Poiret
To sum up the work of Paul Poiret, it would be reasonable to call him fashion's last great orientalist, as well as fashion's first great modernist. For each century has a designer that defines it above all, Poiret stood as the trophy of the 1910s. Each article of clothing contains vivid color formalities, puzzling silhouettes, and fantasies oriented from the eastern world. Some would argue that Poiret actually built the blue plan for the modern fashion world - entangled with the first bit of modern fashion marketing. For it was Paul Poiret who decided it was best to use the stage to his advantage and hold a fashion show. And then the 1920's came, diminishing Poiret as a designer and further leading to the complete closure of his business. Subsequently, Chanel took over the world.
